Chinese President Xi Jinping affirmed today that his country is committed to comprehensively securing and protecting human rights, noting the great progress China has made in this regard.
"Since its founding more than 100 years ago, the Chinese Communist Party has been striving to serve the interests of the Chinese people and shoulder the task of working for their happiness and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation," Xinhua quoted Xi as saying during a video meeting with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet.
China welcomed Bachelet's visit, while the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman announced earlier that the purpose of the visit is to enhance exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.
