Engineer Ahmed Haidar, Director of Plant Production at the Ministry of Agriculture, confirmed that the ministry's priority is to provide support to the agricultural sector for strategic crops such as cotton by providing technical and advisory support to cotton farmers.
In a statement to SANA, Engineer Haider indicated that the support also includes securing seeds, fertilizers and fuels according to the available capabilities, and continuously monitoring the crop's status through extension units.
For his part, Eng. Ahmed Hamidi, Head of the Field Crops Department in the Plant Production Directorate, indicated that the total areas planted with cotton to date amounted to 23,407 hectares of the planned area, amounting to 57,365 hectares, with an implementation rate of 41 percent, pointing out that the cultivation process continues in some areas and at limited rates.
In turn, the head of the Agricultural Affairs Office of the General Union of Peasants, Muhammad Al-Khalif, called for providing full support to cotton farmers in a timely manner by securing the work requirements of seeds, fertilizers and burners necessary for the irrigation process, in addition to speeding up the rehabilitation of public irrigation channels, which significantly reduce labor costs, stressing the importance of stimulating farmers financially from By increasing the marketing price continuously and in proportion to production costs.
