The General Directorate of Ports has offered a number of marine sites for seasonal investment by way of public auction, with the aim of securing the best services for beach-goers, in a manner that provides safety and security factors in popular tourism facilities and provides the public treasury with additional revenues.

The Director General of Ports, Brigadier-General, Naval Engineer Samer Kobarli, said in a statement to SANA that the financial revenues achieved until the end of the fourth month of this year amounted to about one billion and 93 million pounds, while the seasonal investment revenues of the Directorate witnessed a remarkable growth last year compared to previous years, where it achieved revenues of 600 million pounds. While it did not exceed 25 million pounds during the previous years, and accordingly, seasonal investments will be granted this year, allowing equal opportunities and achieving an increase in revenues.

Kibrosli said that the directorate offered many tourist sites for investment through public auctions, including areas in the city of Latakia, Wadi Qandil, Jablet Al Shuqaifat, Banias and Tartous, indicating that the duration of these investments starts from the date of ratification of the contract and the direct order until the end of the tenth month of this year, as it will contribute to providing Services necessary for beach-goers and the provision of safety and security factors in popular tourism facilities.

Cyprusli explained that the General Directorate of Ports has a service-administrative activity and does not have a productive nature and seeks with its cadres and capabilities to carry out the tasks entrusted to it under Legislative Decree No. 154 of 1961, whether related to the implementation of laws, decrees, regulations and decisions related to maritime and commercial navigation and the safety and security of ports, lighthouses and territorial waters and a study design and implementation New port projects, maintenance, repair and expansion of existing ports, monitoring of maritime public properties, registration of ships, estimating their tonnages, securing the safety of lives and money at sea, and implementing laws related to marine fishing.

Regarding the work of the General Directorate of Ports and the services it provides, Kobrly said: The Directorate conducts a periodic isolation of ports, according to priorities imposed by the nature of these ports, the purposes of their use and their geographical location. And the Syrian ports and territorial waters through its land and sea patrols and its centers along the Syrian coast.
