According to his own statements, ex-Chancellor Gerhard Schröder refrained from nominating the supervisory board of the Russian energy company Gazprom a long time ago.

Schröder stated: "I gave up my nomination to Gazprom's supervisory board a long time ago.
I have reported this to the company as well.

did Schröder leave open whether he would accept a nomination for a supervisory board position.
Schröder is a personal friend of Russian ruler Vladimir Putin.
Since the outbreak of the Ukraine conflict, Schröder had faced public pressure to sever his ties with Russia.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz had also wished Schröder to resign his mandates.

Schröder is currently still the leading lobbyist for the Gazprom subsidiaries Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2.
The Gazprom general meeting is scheduled for June 30th.
The 78-year-old had been accused across party lines of filling high-paying positions in Russian state-owned companies, while the European Union was trying to impose sanctions on the Russian economy in order to help Ukraine in this way.
Schröder also lost his privileges as former chancellor, including his office.
The European Parliament wants to put Schröder on the sanctions wire that takes action against oligarchs.
