Paul Yang has been interested in videography and filming since childhood. In order to realize his film dream, he enrolled in Metropolitan University's Film Design and Photography Digital Art course (now known as "Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours in Image Design and Digital Art") after completing the Higher Diploma. , and even got the opportunity to assist the Student Affairs Office to make a film for the event before graduation, which awakened his "director soul".

"There is no textbook that will teach you how to become a director." Paul admits that he can only learn different skills if he "gets down".

He successively signed up for the Student Talent Recruitment Program and Internship Program of the Student Affairs Office, and accumulated different filming experience. Later, he was selected as a director to produce the program "Dream of Love", interviewing wheelchair athlete Lan Ying, cycling legend Jin Jin Zhao Shanheng, director and entertainer of the movie "One Second Boxing".

Different from classroom or personal shooting exercises, in addition to planning, script creation, on-site scheduling, etc., Paul also leads other students and communicates with university staff at different levels, and also needs to consider various business operation elements. From Professional Athlete to Sports Marketing

Also a recent graduate, Cinica Tang, a fourth-year student of the Bachelor of Sports and Recreation Management with Honours programme, actively participates in the department's activities and associations.

She serves as the vice-chairman of the Society for Sports and Recreation Management, and planned a three-person volleyball cup with her team during the pandemic.

She is also a member of the big table tennis team, and plays the role of cohesive teammates.

But what had the deepest impact on her was the fact that she was arranged by the university to intern at the Hong Kong Professional Footballers Association last summer, allowing her to explore development directions other than athletes.

Under the epidemic, Cinica (the first from the right in the back row) worked hard with the members of the society to complete various activities and united the students of the department.

She described the internship experience as giving her a great sense of accomplishment.

She is mainly responsible for assisting in the planning of a charity football match. In addition to using design software to produce promotional materials, she also invited the media to report. On the day of the event, there was a heavy rain and the tent was blown over by the strong wind, which was a test of the ability to "exercise life".

"The process is unforgettable. It is very rare to be able to organize the entire event from scratch, and it gives me a lot of satisfaction." In the past, she only held the dream of becoming a professional athlete and could not see any other way forward. Fortunately, she learned about sports marketing before graduation. fun of.

In addition, the school tutors are willing to share different job opportunities and information, which has established her future career direction. "I can also continue to cultivate my interest in sports and music outside of work, and develop in more aspects."

Passionate about communication

Enrollment under the epidemic, thinking that college life is only Zoom?

Owen, a first-year student of the Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Applied Social Studies, said with a smile that his campus life is very fulfilling thanks to checking emails from the Student Affairs Office (SAO) every day.

"SAO arranges many activities for students, such as service learning (service learning), as well as activities with different off-campus institutions." Owen likes to communicate with people.

In just one year of enrollment, he has participated in nearly ten activities. He believes that the activities organized by the University give students a lot of freedom, and some activities are funded by SAO for students to personally plan the content and let them play to their fullest.

Owen is particularly keen to participate in service-learning activities. He has participated in the life and death education activity "Life for the Elderly", from which he has learned about funeral services such as funerals and body make-up, and understands the issues of life and death.

He also needs to use the funds with his team members to fulfill the wish of a single mother-in-law - eating long-legged crabs and going to the cinema to watch movies.

"My mother-in-law said that she has not been to a theater for 20 to 30 years. It gives me great satisfaction to be able to fulfill her wish." Owen also signed up to be the Mental Health Ambassador of Metropolitan University, and collaborated with team members to design a bathing ball workshop , to promote mental health to other university students.

"From purchasing materials to directing the online workshop, the entire event was handled by us. After the workshop was launched, the response was overwhelming, and the school finally increased our funding." In addition to the service-learning activities, Owen also participated in the "Integrity Ambassador Scheme" "And related internship programs, he is preparing for an interview and hopes to intern at the ICAC during the summer vacation.

He expressed the hope that through participating in different activities, he can gradually discover his own life direction.

Get a scholarship of 40,000 yuan for each subject

The Hong Kong Metropolitan University will offer 51 undergraduate programmes in the 2022/23 academic year, 15 of which will be under the "Course Funding Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors".

Metropolitan University has specially set up the "Star Entrance Scholarship" this year. Students admitted through JUPAS who obtain 5* or 5** in any subject in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination will receive a scholarship of HK$40,000 per subject.
