In just a short time, Macron's La République en Marche party has become a fixture in France.

Now it wants to be called "Renaissance".

Everything important.

Paris - The founders of La République en Marche found partisan tensions in France "unfruitful".

The new movement "En Marche" was intended to bridge this division and create a new dynamic in French society.

At the same time, LREM, as the party is abbreviated, was intended as the basis for Emmanuel Macron's first presidential campaign.

The company was successful – several times over.

To keep it that way, the party wants to rename itself “Renaissance” before the parliamentary elections.

La République en Marche: Successful first year for Emmanuel Macron's party

However, the success of the new movement was not foreseeable on April 6, 2016, the founding day of La République en Marche.

Emmanuel Macron, then only 38 years old and Minister of Economy under Socialist President François Hollande, wanted to lay the foundation for his candidacy for the office of President in the 2017 election.

La République en Marche and its candidate Macron also achieved their first major success in the 2017 presidential election.

In the first ballot, Macron received 23.9 percent of the votes, taking first place.

In the runoff, he ran against Marine Le Pen of the Rassemblement National.

Macron received a clear majority of 66.1 percent.

The candidates from La République en Marche were also able to win the majority of the constituencies in the elections to the National Assembly a few months later.

308 LREM MPs moved into the lower house of the French parliament, so Macron also had a majority.

Emmanuel Macron's party: The objectives of La République en Marche

The aim of the movement, which will be renamed the new Renaissance party in 2022, was to create a “new progressivism”.

Every individual should be freer in their actions through education, innovation and the prevention of discrimination.

A clearly pro-European orientation also plays a role in La République en Marche.

Macron himself introduced several reform proposals for the EU after the start of his first presidency.

Programmatically, La République en Marche takes a liberal line.

Macron's party plans to reform the bureaucracy, adjust pensions to inflation and initiate an ecological transformation.

However, the president's reform plans also envisaged cuts in social benefits and the removal of corporate regulations.

Despite sometimes fierce criticism of Macron's course, he was re-elected in France's 2022 presidential election.

In the run-off he again won against Marine Le Pen, but with 58.6 percent he received significantly fewer votes than in 2017.

La République en Marche wants to rename itself Renaissance

Ahead of the general elections in France in June 2022, La République en Marche announced an innovation.

The party is now to be called Renaissance.

Political parties have to reinvent themselves in order to continue to exist, explained the chairman Stanislaw Guerini the change.

As a renaissance, the party is also striving for stronger ties to local politics in order to develop into a people's party.

The aim of Renaissance is to be open to all citizens and politicians.
