In view of the falling number of corona cases, Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach wants to relax the rules for entry into Germany over the summer months.
"We will suspend the 3G rule upon entry by the end of August," the SPD politician told the newspapers of the Funke media group.
From June 1, travelers returning and other travelers no longer have to prove that they have been vaccinated, recovered or tested.
The currently valid Corona entry regulation still requires 3G proof for all persons over the age of twelve until May 31st.
Even stricter rules apply to travelers from virus variant areas: They must go into a 14-day quarantine in Germany, even if they are vaccinated or have recovered.
Change should be decided on this Wednesday
This rule will continue to apply in the coming months.
"If such areas are defined, those entering the country must be in quarantine," Lauterbach told the Funke newspapers.
"Even with lower incidences in summer, we have to remain cautious in a global pandemic." However, no country has currently been designated as a virus variant area.
According to information from the Funke newspapers, the change in the Corona entry regulation is to be passed by the federal cabinet this Wednesday.
It also provides that in future not only the vaccines approved by the EU, but all vaccines approved by the WHO will be recognized upon entry.
Most recently, the number of people infected with corona in Germany had fallen steadily.
On Wednesday, the Robert Koch Institute reported 49,141 new infections within 24 hours.
That is 22,910 fewer cases than on Wednesday a week ago.
However, comparisons of the data are only possible to a limited extent.
Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - due to overworked health authorities and because not all infected people have a PCR test done.
Only these count in the statistics.
In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.
