Increasing numbers of deployments, high administrative costs and a tight exercise program: all of this demands a lot from the commander of a volunteer fire brigade.

In order to strengthen its management team, the Brunnthal volunteer fire brigade has now set up two instead of just one vice commanders at the annual general meeting.

- After the previous deputy commander Christian Hewer-Schwarz had made his office available for private reasons, this was the right time to venture into the community for two deputy posts.

"The number of missions is increasing, the exercise program for our active members is strict, and the administrative burden is not decreasing either," emphasizes Commander Marco Torriani to the Münchner Merkur.

"For these reasons, I asked Mayor Stefan Kern and the municipal council to create a second deputy position." The municipal council had approved this increase in staff.

These are the new vice-commanders

With a lot of backing, those present finally elected the two previous group leaders Ralf Seibert and Marcel Otto as Torriani's new deputies.

"Both are very dedicated, motivated and have each been active in the fire service for over 20 years," says fire brigade association chairman Thomas Mayer.

42-year-old Ralf Seibert is a state-certified electrical engineer in the field of high-frequency technology.

Marcel Otto, who is the same age, works in the Brunnthal building yard.

The support of the two new deputy commanders is needed, as a look at the current deployment statistics shows.

The Brunnthaler Floriansjünger were called to 175 missions last year, including 31 fires, 50 technical assistance, 90 first responder alerts and four other missions.

"The number is high when you consider that there are also plenty of exercises and further training measures for our volunteers, who are in high demand overall," says Torriani.

86 active task forces

There are currently 86 active members of the Brunnthal fire brigade – 20 of whom are women and seven are under the age of 18.

More offspring is urgently needed.

The fire brigade association with its 239 members does important background work for this and in many other areas.

Public events, membership and active recruitment as well as the supervision of important projects in the procurement of materials or construction are planned there.

Club President confirmed in office

"We are currently looking forward to the realization of our extension to the Brunnthal fire station," emphasizes the old and new club chairman Thomas Mayer.

Together with his long-standing deputy Norbert Loy, both were confirmed in office with one abstention each.

The extended board also includes the two treasurers Benjamin Sass and Laurena Vorleitner as well as the secretaries Katharina Schmitt and Irmgard Riedmaier-Sprenzel.
