Opinion | Dimensions of study: Academy is the weapon of citizenship Israel today

2022-05-25T21:12:21.413Z

A population with a basic education is an existential interest for any life-wanting society • Ignorance is the rotten root from which the trees of violence, extremism, exploitation and degeneration emerge • Therefore, a free education law is needed from the age of 5 to 25

The law has passed, but the "dimensions for studies" storm has not yet subsided.

So as someone who is just about to graduate from high school - that is, a high school academy and then enlist - I have a few words for you.

Feel free to switch to rest or doom, whatever it is, I do not really differentiate between them.

The law funds a bachelor's or master's degree for discharged combatants, or for discharges from underprivileged populations.

I do not want to talk about the current political docu-reality, because it really is irrelevant: just do "stone, paper or scissors" and come to a decision faster, because the soldiers' clearness is just an excuse, it's a shame we are not spared the drama.

What I will say is that in my humble opinion, academic studies should be funded for everyone: the Free Education Law from the age of 5 to 25.

And why do I think that?

Because a bachelor’s degree in the job market is a basic consumer product like milk, like cottage.

And why is it only an opportunity for a person who was born into the right family or under the right threshold conditions for a scholarship to study?

A degree is not just a degree;

Essentially, academic learning enables social leadership.

Academic space opens up new avenues for thought for learners, new opportunities that were not accessible until that moment, and most importantly - students get valuable time in important scheduling, with new people with a common interest, learning with them and many times - from them.

Thus, the soldiers are released, put on the uniform and the belt, and in return we give them weapons for citizenship and life in the 21st century: a degree, which is basically their exit ticket from their previous lives to the life they would like to create for themselves.

Now, I know what to say - that not everyone can, that for some it is a waste of time, and that there are better things to do in the state budget.

So first of all: stop the bass, it is not healthy for the facial skin.

Second, when you say it does not suit everyone, you say that getting tools for critical thinking, creating a foundation of basic knowledge in the areas of life, and learning together with people with similar aspirations, is not something that is important for every citizen to do?

Whoever says so, suffers in my eyes from narrow-mindedness, paternalism and racism of low expectations.

Have you ever met a discharged soldier?

Is there a creature more confused than that?

He himself does not yet know what suits him and what does not, and academia is a great space to be confused.

But most of all, a population with a basic education is an existential interest of any society that wants life.

Ignorance is the rotten root from which the trees of violence, extremism, exploitation and degeneration, cultural and economic degeneration, sprout.

Know what?

Go check out what the children of anyone who opposes soldier education do, and sail with all the silly arguments I described at the beginning of the break, and wake me up when you find one whose children have not studied in academia.

I have a feeling it's going to be a very long time.

If so, the weapons we give to discharged soldiers is the option to think.

Thinking develops culture, expands the mind and enables a more sane discourse.

I would say that if there is no culture, then what will we fight for at all?

But here is probably always about what.

We need to stop living only on our sword and start living on our minds as well.

This is a war for the future of the state and the future of society.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
