Ottenhofen: Tempo 30 zone is too big

The municipality of Ottenhofen has to partially withdraw the 30 km/h limit on Schwillacher Straße.

It has only been in effect for a few months.

Ottenhofen – Ottenhofen's mayor Nicole Schley (SPD) has to work with her local council to find a new solution for the speed limit on Schwillacher Strasse.

As reported, the existing 30 km/h limit, which has only been in force there for a few months, has to be lifted, at least in part.

"The length of the restriction didn't fit.

That will be implemented soon, ”explains Schley in an interview with our newspaper.

A reader had come forward to express his anger at the impending lifting of the restriction.

When asked, the mayor became more precise: the goal had always been to make Schillacher Strasse safer by imposing a speed limit.

After all, this is the way to school and kindergarten, which numerous children use every day.

As is well known, another childcare facility will be added in the immediate vicinity in the foreseeable future with the new children's home.

During a site inspection with the district office and the police, it was made clear that the municipality could order such a speed limit in this area, Schley explained.

However, the municipality has probably done too much of a good thing here.

You shouldn't have ordered the speed limit at the beginning of Schillacher Strasse.

But the entire course of the street was the way to school and the way to the kindergarten, that was the idea.

"I don't like it at all, but the laws don't really give us much leeway," Schley regrets the partial withdrawal.

The church is not alone with this problem.

For a restriction to 30 km/h, the legislator regularly requires a concrete justification.

Schools and kindergartens, hospitals and senior citizens' facilities are generally included.

The editors have several reports from other cities and communities that had to lift such speed limits.

Schley is now hoping for corresponding initiatives in the Bundestag.

And she announces a new solution that will bring the speed limit closer to the Meillerweg junction.

The school is located there and soon even two kindergartens, and in the extension of Schwillacher Straße there is also the forest kindergarten.
