Prison sentences and acquittals in the robbery trial

The district court in Kiel sentenced seven men to prison on Wednesday for a life-threatening attack with an axe, butcher knife and two batons.
According to a court spokeswoman, the accused, who according to the verdict in April last year seriously injured a then 31-year-old, were sentenced to between three years and two months and four and a half years.
Kiel – Two defendants were therefore acquitted.
The court thus largely complied with the prosecutor's requests.
According to the indictment, the men, aged between 23 and 35, pursued their victim at night after an argument in a shisha bar.
On April 25, 2021, they pounced on the man on Venetaplatz in Kiel and attacked him.
The prosecutor had demanded prison sentences of between three years and eight months and four and a half years for four of the accused for attempted manslaughter.
For three alleged accomplices, she pleaded for dangerous bodily harm to prison sentences of between two years and eight months and three years.
She also applied for acquittals for two of the accused.
The defense attorneys, on the other hand, demanded a maximum of suspended sentences or acquittals.
The then 31-year-old victim of the violent attack suffered, among other things, an open traumatic brain injury, a jaw fracture and stitches and cuts in the face and back.
His life was in acute danger and he had to undergo an emergency operation.
