Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree facilitating the granting of Russian citizenship to residents of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions in Ukraine.
The Russia Today website stated that Putin included in his decree, whose text was published on the official legal documents portal, amendments to the presidential decree issued on April 24, 2019 regarding determining the categories of people who are entitled to apply for Russian citizenship according to simplified procedures for humanitarian purposes.
Under the new amendments, residents of Zaporozhye and Kherson, two regions controlled by Russian forces since the early stages of the military operation in Ukraine, will be covered by the same provisions and procedures that apply according to the decree to residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. It must be done within a period not exceeding 3 months from the date of submitting the application and the necessary documents.
