Texas Massacre: The Historical Narrative Continues to Kill the Future | Israel today

2022-05-25T20:29:44.035Z

Social polarization and ideological rift, as well as the availability of weapons, allow people who are disturbed or overwhelmed by hatred of the other, to commit shocking crimes over and over again, some against a distinctly antisemitic background.

Hundreds of years have passed since the founding American ethos was formed and shaped, at the center of which is the individual and his right to defend himself and his space by force of arms, but there has not yet been any erosion in it.

This is despite the fact that the 21st century USA is light years away from the old era, during which the nation grew and began a process of expansion.

In this dynamic process, no stable patterns of governance have been formed, and no authorities have been established to enforce and maintain personal security.

Thus, the principle of self-defense in the face of an anarchic existence became a sacred principle in narrative and heritage and found expression in the Second Amendment to the Constitution (1791), which affirmed the individual's right to own and possess weapons.

Although the superpower today is supposed to ensure personal security for all its citizens, the spirit of the original ethos on the individual's right to defend himself - has taken root as part of the hallmarks of American culture, especially in the Republican wing.

Flowers and candles were placed on a memorial in memory of the murdered children,

Allegedly, the purchase of the weapon requires the buyer to undergo a background check about his health condition and mental and criminal background, the restrictions can be circumvented through purchases at arms exhibitions or websites.

The result is devastating.

The massacre yesterday in the town of Yuvaldi was just one last link in a relentless wave of mass killings, the victims of which were often children (as happened a decade ago at Sandy Hawk Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut, where 20 children and 6 teachers were killed).

The social polarization and ideological rift, as well as the availability of weapons, add fuel to the fire of mass and indiscriminate murder, and allow people who are disturbed or overwhelmed by hatred of the other, to repeatedly commit shocking crimes - including against a distinctly antisemitic background.

Will the shock that is now befalling the American nation change public opinion?

Given this picture of incessant internal violence, the question arises: Will the shock now plaguing the American nation, when as in Newton the victims were innocent children, excite public opinion to the extent that it is translated into effective legislation, and may succeed in influencing congressional elections?

The past indicates that the prospects for future legislative consideration are slim.

However, the possibility should not be ruled out that what happened yesterday at Yuvaldi will affect the voting pattern of key audiences.

Especially women in the suburbs, who as in the 2020 elections will give broad support to the Democratic camp, which supports increased oversight and restrictions on arms purchases.

Would this vote be a breach of equality in the struggle for control of Congress?

The answer will become clear in five months.

Were we wrong?
