The People’s Assembly, in its session held today, chaired by Hammouda Sabbagh, Speaker of the Assembly, began discussing the draft law that includes the creation of a public authority of an administrative nature called the “university city” in each of the universities subject to the provisions of the Universities Organizing Law.

After the general deliberation on the project, the Council approved a number of its articles, which stipulate the creation of a public authority of an administrative nature in the name of the university city, which enjoys legal personality and financial and administrative independence in each governorate in which a university has been established that is subject to the provisions of the Universities Organizing Law No. 6 of 2006 and its amendments and is linked to the president of the university .

The newly created university city, according to the project articles, replaces the existing university city with all its rights and obligations, and the ownership of all lands, buildings, facilities, kiosks, clubs, restaurants, canteens, theaters, furniture, equipment, machinery and tools that are present and contracted for it on the date of issuance of this law shall be transferred to it.

The session, which was attended by the Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim and the State for People's Assembly Affairs Abdullah Abdullah, was raised to 11 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday.
