Reliance on renewable energy is increasing in various projects, especially those related to agriculture, pumping drinking water and lighting roads in Daraa Governorate.
The Director General of the Daraa Foundation for Drinking Water, Engineer Muhammad Al-Masalma, explained that the Foundation was able to convert 31 wells throughout the governorate from pumping using electricity or diesel to pumping based on solar energy, indicating that this step contributed to securing continuous pumping hours for citizens.
Al-Masalma pointed out that the wells that were converted to pumping using solar energy are spreading in the northern and western countryside of the governorate, while the Corporation intends to convert 29 wells to work with solar energy, respectively, during this year and the next.
In agriculture, farmers began to switch to renewable energies in light of the large increase in production requirements, especially fuels, in addition to its scarcity in the markets, according to Engineer Bassam Al-Hashish, Director of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform.
Al-Hashish explained that the use of alternative energy contributed to reducing production costs, pointing out that the return of the solar energy project is good and allows farmers to compensate for the cost of agricultural crops.
The city councils in the governorate, as well as the municipalities, were not far from alternative energy projects, whether they were from their budgets or with the support of international organizations. Several cities in the governorate, led by the city of Daraa and a number of towns, witnessed a shift towards solar energy in lighting their main roads and squares, which allows to reduce dependence on solar energy. Conventional electricity and the provision of continuous lighting at night for cities.
Engineer Amin Al-Omari, head of Daraa City Council, believes that lighting the main axes and commercial markets in the city allowed for the revitalization of commercial traffic in the evening, in addition to achieving savings in the field of electricity consumption in lighting, and may be transferred later to other places that need more traditional electricity.
