The Fischer family has been running a tennis facility in Wolfersdorf for 34 years.

Everyone is welcome here who wants to enjoy the sport in the open air.

Wolfersdorf

– It is an idyll.

An idyll created by Robert and Katharina Fischer on the northern edge of Wolfersdorf.

But not (only) for yourself.

No: For 34 years now, there have been two private tennis courts between trees and meadows, which Robert and Katharina Fischer rent out.

To the TC Wolfersdorf, but also to private individuals who more or less spontaneously want to pick up the bat to devote themselves to the felt ball.

The Freisinger Tagblatt visited the Fischer family.

After the decision was made, the excavators rolled in first, Robert Fischer recalls.

What was possible, they did themselves, the superstructure was carried out by a special company, but the automatic irrigation system was only added a few years later.

Since then, Robert Fischer has taken care of the maintenance of the two pitches, and in the spring members of TC Wolfersdorf, founded in 1994, arrive to prepare the pitches for the season.

Most of the work during the summer months is mowing and maintaining the green areas around the squares so that the idyll remains an idyll.

The enthusiasm for tennis returns

How it all began: When setting up the system, you had to do your own work.

In the beginning, says Fischer, the rush was huge, the catchment area covered a radius of 30 kilometers.

Key word: the Becker boom.

The catchment area has shrunk a bit since about 2005, but there are still many children who want to start playing tennis, or returnees or newcomers who rent the courts by the hour.

Since Corona, as the Fischers have observed, the popularity of this outdoor sport has increased again.

And the facility has continued to grow: in the early years there was a construction trailer, but now a small hut with a canopy has been built, and there are also showers and toilets in a nearby building.

Fischer remembers "legendary festivals" that were already celebrated there - for example when the TC organizes its summer party there.

"We are a big family," he describes the atmosphere on his tennis courts.

“Bussi-Bussi-Society” – you won't find that at all here, emphasizes Fischer.

A very special quality feature - and players from visiting teams confirm this again and again - is that the pitches are in very good condition.

Of course that takes work.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

You won't get rich doing it, emphasizes Fischer.

"It's a hobby that leaves a little something left over." If he converts his hours into earnings, then it's "far below minimum wage," he says.

It is the fun of joy, as the saying goes, that drives Robert and Katharina Fischer.

And the fact that the community has always supported her project makes things even nicer and easier.

The two - 63 and 64 years old respectively - want to maintain and operate the tennis courts for as long as they can physically and as much as they enjoy it.

With the sons Stefan (37) and Markus (33) you at least have the next generation of tennis players in the family.

It is not yet clear whether one or both of them will continue their parents' hobby.

And the Fischers don't even think that far.

They still feel at home on the tennis courts, on their tennis courts, enjoying the meadows and trees, in whose shade you can relax so wonderfully.

Just an idyll.
