The toll of blood in the Ukraine war is increasing every day.
Athletes are also among the victims of the war - most recently, two boxing champions die in battle.
KIEV – As the Ukrainian Ministry of Youth and Sports announced on Tuesday (May 25), former kickboxing and Muay Thai world champion Alexei Yanin, a well-known athlete, was killed defending the country.
The athlete is said to have died in the battle for Mariupol back in April.
Yanin was probably a veteran with combat experience: he had already volunteered for the Ukrainian armed forces in 2014 and was active in the war for Donbass.
He is not the only prominent Ukrainian athlete who was killed in the fighting against the aggressors from Russia.
According to an Instagram post from a regional boxing association, amateur champion Oleg Prudky has now lost his life.
“Another tragedy in our boxing family.
One of the best boxers in the Cherkasy region, Oleg Prudky, died in the east! ” the post said.

"It's very difficult to accept news like this every day - an irreparable loss to our boxing family.
I offer my sincere condolences to the boxer's family.

War in Ukraine: Several Ukrainian athletes are killed
Prudky was part of the Otaman boxing stable, for which Alexander Usyk also competed in the past - a world-class athlete.
According to the Mirror, Usyk himself is now out of the country, having returned to the country at the start of the Ukraine war.
He is now preparing for his title defense fight against Britain's Anthony Joshua.
The deaths of Yanin and Prudky meanwhile join a long list of deaths of Ukrainian athletes.
Shortly after the Russian invasion began, two Ukrainian soccer professionals were killed in early March.
