Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that her country is closely monitoring the hostile activity of the Japanese government towards the joint military exercises conducted by Moscow and Beijing and that it reserves the right to take measures to enhance its defense capability.
"Unfortunately, this is not the first time that we see how Tokyo harasss these traditional training activities of the Russian-Chinese armed forces, distorts their objectives and content, and even links them to Russia's special military operation in Ukraine," Zakharova said in a statement.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Air Force, Sergey Surovkin, had previously confirmed that the Russian and Chinese planes acted strictly in accordance with the provisions of international law, and the airspace of foreign countries was not violated, explaining that the joint patrols were planned and not directed against third countries.
Yesterday, the Chinese and Russian air forces conducted a joint strategic air patrol over the Sea of Japan, the East China Sea and the Western Pacific Ocean, according to the annual cooperation program between the two militaries.
