The young gunman entered the building unhindered and barricaded himself there for nearly an hour before being shot dead by Border Patrol, local authorities reported Thursday.

The regional director of Security in South Texas, Victor Escalon, said the killer entered the building "without obstacles" through a door that apparently was not locked.

The killer was not confronted by a school police officer

before entering the school, Escalón said, which is contrary to information released by authorities after the attack.
