The Federal Data Protection Commissioner Ulrich Kelber has been waiting for the electric car he ordered from VW for a year.

He vented his anger on Twitter.

Bonn - The waiting times for new cars are getting longer - especially for electric cars.

The Federal Data Protection Commissioner Ulrich Kelber (SPD) has had to experience this.

According to his own statements, he ordered an electric car from VW a year ago and is still waiting for his car.

The data protection officer did not provide any information about which model he had ordered.

E-cars: long waiting times, no communication - criticism of VW

On his private Twitter account, Kelber harshly criticized how the automaker was dealing with the delivery difficulties.

For example, there is “zero active communication by VW”: “Although I am a direct customer of VW, neither I nor the intermediary dealer have received any active information from VW to date.

Not on the original delivery date and not to this day either,” explains Kelber.

When asked, there was not even information about the current status.

But what strikes him as particularly negative in his function as data protection officer: Since he signed the leasing contract, he has received advertising and success stories about mass deliveries of his model to corporate customers.

"But not an email about my case," Kelber concludes.

He appealed to the group: “Dear people at VW, you have received my data for contractual matters and for news about my car model.

You don't use them for that, but for advertising.

It would be my first Volkswagen if things continued in this unprofessional way, and it would certainly be the last.”

Kelber went on to say he knew supply chain issues and chip shortages would weigh on the auto industry.

"But this complete inability to communicate in the age of CRM is driving me crazy," said the Federal Data Protection Commissioner.

Volkswagen: Huge profits in the first quarter

In fact, Volkswagen can no longer keep up with production, while demand, especially for electric cars, has continued to increase.

"Our electric vehicles are practically sold out in Europe and the United States," VW CEO Herbert Diess recently told the

Financial Times

.

As the VW boss explained, just under 300,000 orders still had to be processed for Western Europe alone.
