1,650 new apartments are to be built north-east of Lake Fasaneries.
With a special mobility concept, traffic is to be reduced to a minimum.
That's what bothers the opposition.
Munich - The city council has now approved the preliminary draft of the land use plan for the new residential area on Lerchenauer Strasse in Feldmoching.
The Greens are happy about that, the FDP criticizes the decision.
Lerchenauer Strasse residential area: 1,650 new apartments and six day-care centers planned
Around 1,650 apartments, a school campus, six day care centers, shops and several social facilities are to be located on the areas north-east of Fasaneriessee, which are still used for agriculture - between Lerchenauer and Lerchenstrasse.
A green corridor runs through the new quarter in a north-south direction.
The houses are arranged around green courtyards.
A marketplace with shops will serve as a lively center for the new residential area.
For the first time, a special mobility concept is intended to reduce car traffic to just 20 percent in this area.
This is to be achieved through a pedestrian and cyclist-friendly design, car sharing and cargo bike offers, a good MVV connection and a reduced number of parking spaces.
"The housing shortage makes the development of this area unavoidable," says Green City Councilor Florian Schönemann.
"With this plan, we have managed to limit the space required through a moderate height development and to set standards for the mobility of the future with an ambitious mobility concept," says Green City Councilor Florian Schönemann.
Residential area Lerchenauer Straße: FDP and Bavarian party criticize traffic concept: "Concern becomes reality"
The concept, in turn, met with little approval, especially from the FDP and the Bavarian party.
"Future traffic needs and mobility types such as autonomous driving are not taken into account at all," says parliamentary group leader Jörg Hoffmann.
"This bad planning will be painful for the future residents." Richard Progl, city councilor for the Bavarian party, said that the greatest concern of the current residents and future neighbors of the new housing estate was the impending traffic chaos.
“It is precisely this concern that is becoming a reality with the city council decision.
Because there are far too few parking spaces in the new area, the new residents will be forced to move to the existing settlements with single-family houses.”
