2,150 male and female students from different educational levels compete in the second phase of the Arab Reading Challenge initiative qualifiers at the level of educational districts in various governorates, which started today and will continue until May 28.

The general coordinator of the initiative in Syria, Ali Al-Abbas, explained that more than 60,000 students from Syria participated in the initiative, of whom 11022 students qualified for the first phase. Today, 2,150 male and female students are competing in the second phase in 16 centers in various governorates. 110 of them will be selected to compete at the level of Syria and will represent 10 Students, including Syria, are part of the initiative in competition at the Arab level.

Al-Abbas pointed out that the arbitration committees in each governorate consist of an Arabic language instructor in the governorate, a psychological counseling coordinator and a representative of the Arab Writers Union, where the level of questions at this stage varies according to a matrix set by the Challenge Administration in the United Arab Emirates, according to which the best students at the level of Each province and school district.

At the level of educational districts in rural Damascus, 518 male and female students are competing, according to Souad Muhammad, head of the Research Department in Rural Damascus, indicating that the foundations of the qualifications at this stage are focused on highlighting the student’s personality, mastery, mastery of the classical Arabic language, his style of conducting dialogue, his answers to the committee’s questions, and his self-confidence.

In As-Suwayda, the qualifications for the second phase of the initiative were held at the educational training center in the city, according to the coordinator of the Ministry of Education for the competition in As-Suwayda, Haneen Al-Abdullah, indicating that 542 male and female students participated in it, pointing out that 5569 male and female students from 195 schools participated in the first stage.

The Assistant Director of Education for Secondary Education Affairs Lina Hamza stressed the importance of the competition in increasing the students' cultural and literary stock, accustoming them to reading and empowering the Arabic language in a way that enhances national belonging and deepens their cognitive aspects.

The director of the Arabic language in As-Suwayda, a member of the jury for the competition, Hussam Al-Saadi, indicated that participation in the competition requires the student to submit a summary of 50 books he has read, which are presented within a book called a passport for the committee to select two or three books from them and evaluate them at the levels of understanding and criticism of the reading in addition to the use of the Arabic language, fluency and performance. proper.

In Aleppo, the number of students participating in the competition reached 400 male and female students from 332 schools in the governorates of Aleppo and its countryside, according to Huda Al-Hassan, head of the Research Department in the Aleppo Education Directorate.

In a statement to SANA reporter, Bennett Al-Hassan, students' language skills are assessed, in addition to speaking skills, understanding, comprehension, attendance, personality, and general culture, and grades are distributed based on these skills to select the top ten readers.

Muhammad Bashir Dahdouh, a member of the Arab Writers Union, pointed out that the participating students will be tested by probing their knowledge, skills and mental interdependence, in addition to the cultures obtained from the books that have been read and benefited from. The book is far from electronic games, which contributes to building and educating people.

It is noteworthy that the Arab Reading Challenge initiative was launched by the United Arab Emirates in its sixth edition, in which Syria is participating for the first time. It is a reading competition in Arabic in which students from different grades participate. Each participant is asked to read fifty books from outside the curriculum.

The fifth edition of the challenge was attended by 52 countries and more than 21 million students from 96,000 schools and 134,000 supervisors.
