Experts at the US Defense Priorities Research Center have pointed out that US efforts at the global level to isolate Russia have failed, and that this strategy will backfire in favor of Moscow.
The TASS news agency quoted experts as saying in a report published by the center, "The enthusiasm that was manifested in Western reactions against Moscow against the background of its own military operation in Ukraine is noticeably absent in most parts of the world."
Instead, the experts added, "countries such as Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa and others have not taken positions towards Russia and are primarily working to protect its economic and strategic interests."
The experts noted that the political measures of these countries differ among themselves, but they all agreed to refuse to publicly condemn Russia, and some of them, especially India, blamed the United States as a result.
Experts said that these countries were united by the desire to view Russia's special military operation in Ukraine as a "regional conflict rather than a serious threat to global stability as the West does."
In their report, the experts emphasized that many countries put their national interests above US calls to isolate Russia and impose sanctions against it. They also believed that international efforts should aim to facilitate a negotiated settlement in Ukraine and not use the Russian operation as a pretext to isolate and weaken Russia.
Experts pointed out that a number of political leaders are convinced that the accusations will not change Russia's behavior, but rather will increase the polarization towards it, and thus reduce the chances of a political settlement, and the strategy of isolating Russia will end with counterproductive results.
