Autonomy is understood here as the possibility for the Community of Corsica to adopt its own laws in certain areas, and not as the only possibility of adapting national standards to local specificities.

The only autonomy that matters in the current debate is therefore legislative autonomy, not just extensive decentralization, which is claimed by the quasi-unanimity of French local authorities... Without even mentioning the historical, geographical and cultural specificities, the democratic argument of the ballot boxes is unavoidable: the voice of the ballot boxes brought to power a list which made autonomy,

"by right and in full exercise"

in the words of the Chairman of the Executive Council, Gilles Simeoni, the heart of its program.
