Three days before the flag parade took place, MK Itamar Ben Gvir filed a lawsuit against the police for forbidding him to march towards the Nablus Gate in a parade held a few months ago. As part of the lawsuit, he demanded NIS 200,000 in compensation.
The lawsuit was filed through attorney Hanmal Dorfman in the Magistrate's Court. According to the lawsuit, the conduct of the police was negligent and to this day it has not given Ben Gvir the order reserving him not to march at the Nablus Gate.
It will be recalled that MK Ben Gvir's entry to the Nablus Gate was banned by order of Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and despite Ben Gvir's demand from the police officer present to see the order reserved, the officer replied that the order was not in his possession.
According to Ben Gvir in the indictment, the police officer did not refer to any legal source or decision of the same political level and the police violated his immunity when he banned him from entering.
He added that she violated freedom of expression and overthrew it, when according to the Knesset members' immunity law only if the gate was blocked to the entire public could it be prevented from entering, but in practice entry was forbidden only to Jews and not Arabs.
Ben Gvir also attacks the fact that the police did not update him on the order ahead of time and in fact prevented him from appealing against the order to the Supreme Court and in fact even on the ground he did not receive any legal order and did not understand why his entry was banned.
"There is a law in the State of Israel and the police are also subject to the law," said Ben Gvir, adding: If a place is forbidden for public access, a Knesset member can also be prevented from entering it. In addition, the negligent manner of carrying out the task shows how justified the lawsuit is and I demand that the police compensate me in the amount of two hundred thousand NIS.
