In response to the Legislative Council member's enquiry, the Transport and Housing Bureau quoted information provided by the MTR, stating that after the East Rail crossed the harbour section, the East Rail was the busiest hour in the morning. It increased by 27% to about 33,100 passengers.
Based on four people standing per square meter, the load factor is about 73%.
According to the Transport and Housing Bureau, the opening of the East Rail Crossing section will divert traffic to other railways. According to preliminary observations, the number of passengers on the busiest section of the Tsuen Wan Line in the morning has dropped by more than 20%, and the busiest section of the Kwun Tong Line has also dropped by 10%.

The Bureau of Transportation and Housing said that since the cross-sea section of the East Rail Line has just opened to traffic, it may take some time for the travel patterns of passengers and the number of passengers on each railway line to stabilize.
MTR will continue to closely monitor changes in passenger travel patterns, adjust train services in a timely manner according to the actual situation, and continue to adopt multi-pronged measures to ease the flow of people and enhance the passenger experience.
Representatives of the MTR will hold a meeting of the Legislative Council Subcommittee on Railway Matters tomorrow (27th) to further explain the changes in passenger travel patterns since the opening of the cross-sea section.
The sea-crossing section of the East Rail Line is part of the MTR Sha-Central Line project. It was opened to traffic on the 15th of this month. After the sea-crossing section is opened to traffic, the total length of the East Rail Line will be expanded to about 46 kilometers. There are 16 stations in total, of which four The interchange stations, including Tai Wai, Kowloon Tong, Hung Hom and Admiralty Stations, can connect to the five existing MTR railway lines, namely Tuen Ma Line, Kwun Tong Line, Hong Kong Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line and South Island Line.
