When the Bergkirchweih starts in Erlangen on June 2nd, it will have an impact on traffic.
What drivers have to be prepared for.
Erlangen – The Bergkirchweih in Erlangen is a Franconian institution: it has been around since 1755, making it the oldest folk festival in the world.
After the joint celebrations had to be canceled for two years due to the pandemic, this year it's finally time again: "The mountain is calling!" From June 2nd to 13th, 2022, beer will be served to Bergkirchweih visitors in 14 cellars - unfortunately to a greater extent -Price than ever.
What the roughly half a million visitors associate with cozy get-togethers and celebrations in the beer garden initially means one thing for drivers in Erlangen: a massive change.
After all, numerous roads around the festival site will be closed during the festive period.
If you have to get from A to B in the northern part of the city, you should find out early on where traffic can move.
The traffic restrictions also affect the parking situation.
Bergkirchweih 2022 in Erlangen: Where there are closures and diversions
The Erlangen city department for planning and building reveals what traffic restrictions will be imposed on the occasion of the Bergkirchweih:
There are
detours
on Bayreuther, Essenbacher and Rathsberger Strasse.
Stopping
is prohibited on both sides of Hauptstrasse and Bayreuther Strasse, between Martin-Luther-Platz and Essenbacher Strasse, and partially on western Burgbergstrasse.
There is also a partial
parking ban
in the area of the festival site .
Parking is available at the large car park behind the train station in the car park street.
The city of Erlangen assures that all restrictions and closures are adequately signposted.
Even if the city of Erlangen assures that all restrictions and closures are signposted, traffic jams and confusion cannot be avoided.
If you want to avoid this stress, you should switch to alternatives such as the bus or bicycle during the Bergkirchweih.
Only one means of transport is banned from downtown Erlangen during the Bergkirchweih: the e-scooter.
Here you can read why.
