Moscow-Sana

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated his country's support for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, noting that Russian forces are present in Syria at the request of its legitimate government.

In an interview with Russia Today, Lavrov said that the Russian forces in Syria are "in full compliance with the principles stipulated in the Charter of the United Nations and perform the tasks set by the Security Council in Resolution 2254, and we will adhere to this line in the future as well," stressing that the solution to the crisis in Syria will be Only on the basis of respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Lavrov added, "We will support the Syrian leadership in its efforts to fully restore the territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, because there are still units of the armed forces of countries that no one has invited," pointing in this regard to the hostile practices of the US occupation forces, which "openly establish quasi-state formations there and encourage separatism directly.

Lavrov indicated that the United States is trying to "keep the situation in Syria in a state of crisis and stimulate the resumption of hostilities again," denouncing the notorious so-called "Caesar Act" aimed at stifling the Syrian economy.

Lavrov described the decree of amnesty for terrorist crimes in Syria as a very important and positive step.

On the issue of Syrian refugees, Lavrov drew attention to the responsibility of the United States and the European countries that follow it in preventing their return to their homeland, recalling that when a conference was held in Damascus two years ago to create opportunities for the return of refugees, the Americans made a great effort to prevent everyone from attending this conference.

Lavrov said that “the United Nations refused to participate in this conference and only asked its representative in Damascus to sit in the hall as an observer, and this severely damaged the reputation of the United Nations, because the issue of the return of refugees is a direct item written in Resolution 2254, and the General Secretariat and the Secretary-General of the United Nations are personally obligated to contribute directly. in that".

Lavrov pointed out that on the other hand, when the European Union held its conferences on refugees, although they were not intended to create conditions for their return, but rather to raise funds to be paid to those countries in which they are located with the aim of perpetuating the current situation and preventing any positive development in Syria, the Secretary-General of the United Nations was not satisfied with sending his representatives to these conferences, but he himself participated in them.

In another context, Lavrov stated that “the impudent dictates and dictatorship of the representatives of the Western alliance crossed all limits.” He said: “Representatives of this alliance blackmail other countries based on certain positions and through direct threats that they will regret and be punished if they do not join the sanctions imposed on Russia. The reaction of all countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America shows that these countries do not want to sacrifice their national dignity and implement Western dictates.”

The Russian Foreign Minister noted that the situation once again shows that “the colonial thinking and colonial habits of Western colleagues have not disappeared anywhere. The United States and Europe still think the same way and this is bad and sad and contradicts the historical process that objectively lies in the fact that a multipolar world is being formed right Now".
