The Eurojackpot was cracked for the first time after a rule change - on the 14th attempt.

For Germany, the distribution of 110 million euros means a record profit.

Helsinki/Münster - Lotto record win in Germany: A syndicate with 15 players from North Rhine-Westphalia has cracked the Eurojackpot filled with 110 million euros and thus pocketed the largest prize ever distributed in Germany.

With the winning numbers 4 - 22 - 28 - 32 - 47 and the two euro numbers 1 and 2, someone was right for the first time after 13 draws without a main prize, as Westlotto announced on Friday after the draw in Helsinki.

According to the online provider Lotto24, the jackpot was cracked by 15 players together.

Each share of the profit is around 6.9 million euros, a player had two shares.

The winners played through a commercial provider, said a West Lotto spokesman on Saturday.

Rule change makes record lottery winnings possible in Germany

Lottery players from Germany were also happy in the second prize category: Three other tipsters or syndicates can look forward to more than 674,000 euros in the second prize category, with the sum going twice to Baden-Württemberg and once to Hamburg.

The record win was made possible by a rule change that the 18 participating countries implemented at the end of March 2022 to mark the tenth anniversary of the European lottery.

On the one hand, in addition to Friday, a second drawing day was introduced on Tuesday, on the other hand, the upper limit was raised from 90 to 120 million euros.

The record win has now become possible, while in recent years several lottery players have only been able to break the record of 90 million euros.

Lott: Previous record profit of 90 million euros exceeded

So far, the record profit of 90 million euros in Germany has been held by tipsters from Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia (2).

The very first 90 million jackpot was won on May 15, 2015 by a player from the Czech Republic.

The high sum of the jackpot builds up when no player crosses the drawn numbers 5 out of 50 and the Euronumbers (additional numbers) 2 out of 12 correctly.

The undistributed money from the first prize category then goes into the jackpot for the next draw.

The now completed jackpot phase was the 100th in the history of the lottery.

The lottery with 18 participating countries and 33 state lottery companies is coordinated by Westlotto in Münster.

The draw is in the Finnish capital, Helsinki.

At the start in 2012, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Italy, Slovenia and the Netherlands were also there alongside Germany.

Spain, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland were added later.

What do the winners do with the money?

Norwegian invested in football club

How will the lucky ones from NRW use their new fortune?

What the winners do with the mega prize is only made public in the rarest of cases - especially since the consultants of the lottery companies advise extreme discretion.

In 2013, a Norwegian hit the jackpot and won 13.5 million euros.

He fulfills a dream and invests part of his profits in the Norwegian first division football club Odd Grenland.

The longest jackpot phase so far was from March 30th to July 6th, 2018: In 14 consecutive draws, there was no lucky winner in the top prize category.

Then two players placed all the crosses correctly.

45 million euros each went to Hesse and Saxony-Anhalt.

The probability of winning the Eurojackpot is negligible: it is 1 in 140 million.
