The cycle of discussions on the autonomy of Corsica between the government and the nationalists is at a standstill, but the subject remains as sensitive as ever.
After two postponements for different reasons, the Ministry of the Interior has just indicated to AFP that a meeting would be held after the legislative elections, without specifying a date.
A question that stirred the presidential campaign, while the island was set ablaze after the fatal attack on Yvan Colonna, in prison in Arles, on March 2.
A document co-signed in mid-March by Gérald Darmanin and the autonomist president of the Executive Council of Corsica, Gilles Simeoni, had specified that the "perimeter" of these meetings would cover
"all Corsican issues"
, including
“the institutional evolution towards a status of autonomy which remains to be clarified”.
With two red lines not to be crossed for the government: the exit of Corsica from the Republic and
“the creation of two categories of citizens”
.
