Poll shows Americans divided over the right to own a gun

A new opinion poll, the results of which were published today, showed the continuation of the debate among Americans about the right to own individual weapons, despite the horrific shooting incidents that recur in the United States due to the ease of obtaining weapons with immunity from the Constitution, the latest of which was the Texas massacre in which 21 people were killed, including 19 children.

The CBS poll found that 54 percent of Americans support imposing stricter gun laws, while 30 percent believe these laws should remain the same, while 16 percent want less restrictive gun laws.

The divisions among Americans over gun ownership come along party lines, with Democrats in favor of stricter laws, while Republicans prefer to leave things as they are under the pretext of individual rights and the implementation of the Constitution.

Data issued by the Archives of Armed Violence in the United States revealed that firearm homicides in American society had risen to unprecedented levels, as Americans ended the year 2021 with 693 mass shootings, while the previous year witnessed 611 incidents, and 2019 witnessed (417) incidents.

Powerful American pressure groups defend the right to own arms in the face of any legal amendments, and these lobbies have succeeded in subjugating successive US administrations, especially the administration of former US President Donald Trump, to achieve their interests under the pretext of freedom.
