Reshuffle: the new government team does not print, according to our survey

2022-05-26T15:12:29.355Z

The latest Odoxa Backbone consulting study reveals the dissatisfaction of the French with the cast of the new government.

These are beginnings that could be described as laborious.

Still ambiguous on the major projects to come, whether they concern purchasing power or pensions, and already shaken by the Damien Abad affair, the executive begins this second five-year term in pain.

And the French realize it.

According to our Odoxa Backbone consulting survey carried out for

Le Figaro

, they themselves are not convinced by the poster proposed by Emmanuel Macron.

They even say they are mostly dissatisfied (58%).

The problem arises from the start: the appointment of Elisabeth Borne, announced after several weeks of procrastination, has had no significant effect on public opinion.

His few days spent at Matignon were not enough to arouse any enthusiasm either.

Today, only 51% of French people say they are satisfied with the first steps of the head of government.

The most dissatisfied with this Prime Minister are among the Insoumis sympathizers (61%), those of the National Rally (72%) and Reconquest!

(74%).

The Mayor and Attal appreciated by the French

The citizens are no more delighted with the ministers who make up the new team.

In this one, none of the designated faces really prints.

With two exceptions: Bruno Le Maire (Economy) and Gabriel Attal (Public Accounts).

Reappointed after five years in office, the indestructible Bercy is more appreciated than his colleagues.

Its maintenance is even perceived by 43% of citizens as being a “

good decision

”, compared to 27% who believe the opposite.

The youngest of the macronie also stands out with 33% of positive judgments against 29% negative.

As for the others, they arouse either rejection or indifference due to their lack of notoriety.

This is particularly the case of Pap Ndiaye (National Education), Sébastien Lecornu (Armies), Amélie de Montchalin (Ecological Transition), Stanislas Guerini (Public Service) and Damien Abad (Solidarity), designated as "

illustrious strangers

" by the vast majority of French people.

The last, former president of the Republican group, however, suffers from accusations of rape recently brought to the surface.

With 32% of citizens seeing his appointment as a “

bad decision

”, he records the highest level of unpopularity.

Even more embarrassing, the French are questioning the ability of this government to deal with the issues.

They are thus 53% who do not think that this cast is "

well balanced in terms of the profile of its members

", and 62% consider that they are not solid and competent ministers to respond to economic issues (61% ) and social (63%).

In the same order of magnitude, the citizens think that this reshuffle is not a sign that the president wants to print a renewal, nor even that he will preside differently than during the last five years.

It remains to be seen whether these considerations will have an effect on the upcoming legislative elections.

According to our study, it is in any case 56% of respondents who do not think that the executive deserves to have a majority in the National Assembly.
