The squeaking of the hula hoop could be heard from miles away.

The carousel for those with a head for heights is one of the crowd pullers at the 44th Schleißheim folk festival.

Oberschleißheim is celebrating the return to normality until Sunday, May 29th.

Oberschleißheim

– The fact that merry-go-rounds like the hula hoop generate a certain phone power is actually not worth mentioning.

In this case, however, the enthusiastic passengers screamed their hearts out long before the arrival of the parade.

With the arrival of the clubs and the following tapping by Mayor Markus Böck (CSU), this year's folk festival was traditionally heralded.

The first after a forced two-year break.

The enormous crowds on the opening day may serve as proof of how much the people of Oberschleißheim missed opportunities for casual fun and unregulated socializing.

"Finally back in the beer tent," calls Mayor Markus Böck to the 1,300 guests

Mayor Böck (CSU) did not hide the fact that he had not had the opportunity to present himself to the public without any political pressure.

Speaking to people who greeted him with a blissful smile in anticipation of the joys to come – that's what a mayor is made for, after all.

"Finally back in the beer tent," Böck shouted in a good mood to the more than 1000 people.

He hadn't yet dared to tap the hole.

Clubs move through the town to the fairground

Monika Aigner (57) and Harald Hoffmann (61) are among the classic folk festival goers on the first day.

In what the mayor put it, the clubs marched through the town to the fairground in an “almost endless” lindworm.

Tram driver Harald and DB employee Monika have an appointment with their friends from FC Phönix Schleissheim.

The FC organizes the folk festival together with the RSV and the community.

Celebrating informally with friends after such a long time is good for both of them.

"It's been long enough," says Harald Hoffmann.

Finally an opportunity to wear the dirndl again

Annette Brandmair (24) and Alisa Maintok (25) even came to get a taste of the air at the folk festival.

One from Munich, the other from Unterschleißheim, also gave the friends the familiar feeling of sociability that you can only experience in a marquee while Corona was brutal.

"Besides, I like to take my dirndl out again," adds Alisa with a cheerful smile.

One, two, three - it's already tapped into with confidence

In the meantime, Mayor Böck has grabbed the flail.

It's quiet in the tent.

Who would have thought how calm 1300 people could behave when a celebrity prepares to make a fool of himself.

1300 pairs of eyes are watching Böck as he aims the tap with the wooden mallet.

Including the mayors of two neighboring communities, the member of parliament Florian Hahn (CSU) and deputy district administrator Annette Ganssmüller-Maluche (SPD).

Yes, 1, 2, 3, who would have thought that.

You've hardly been able to take a look so quickly, as the beer is already bubbling out of the keg. Practice makes perfect!

It splashed a bit, but overall Mayor Markus Böck tapped into it confidently.

Local beer from Remonte Bräu at the folk festival

The mayor is beaming like a honey cake horse.

After all, he hasn't just been in office since yesterday.

Possibly that motivated him to be able to pierce Remonte this year.

"It's a great thing to serve local beer at a local folk festival," exclaims Markus Böck to the cheering crowd.

Cheers Remonte Bräu!
