"I believe I am also the only lieutenant lord who is the son of two refugees," he told those sitting in the courtroom that included Holocaust survivors.
"Both my parents came here in 1939 when they escaped from the Nazis. My grandparents were murdered and so were 60 relatives. I thank Britain for giving me life," he added excitedly, "because my parents met here. If they had not been granted asylum here in this wonderful country I would not exist. What an amazing thing it is, that one generation after that I am here as the Queen's personal representative, "he concluded.
Lord Lieutenant, the prestigious title of which Wes is proud, is a personal appointment of the Queen.
The beneficiary, in fact, personally represents the Queen in each district of the United Kingdom.
Wes was elected in 2017 to be Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire and will continue to hold the position until 2028.
