Education and early years

He studied acting at the University of Miami in Florida before moving to New York to pursue his dream of being an actor.

However, it wasn't until he moved to Los Angeles after 3 years and played a nice guy on the NBC soap opera "Another World" that Ray Liotta began to fulfill his longings in acting.

Ray Liotta's first film role was as a psychotic ex-husband determined to win his partner back in "Something Wild."

This role propelled Ray Liotta to fame and earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

In 1986 Ray Liotta had an acclaimed performance as "Shoeless" baseball player Joe Jackson in the box office hit "Field of Dreams" with Kevin Costner.

Success with Scorsese: Goodfellas

Ray Liotta played mobster Henry Hill in the classic

Goodfellas

(1990), working alongside renowned actors Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci.

But to avoid being typecast as such forever, Liotta decided to break the mold with his next role as a loving father in the heartwarming film "Corrina, Corrina" (1994), co-starring Whoopi Goldberg.

His work as a producer

Liotta soon showed that acting was not his only forte.

He formed his own production company in 2002 and made his producing debut in the movie "Narc," in which he also played a corrupt cop.

Acknowledgments of Ray Liotta

In 2004, Ray Liotta starred in an episode of the hit NBC drama "ER," winning an Emmy for his guest appearance.

He won the Robert Altman Award in 2020 along with the cast and production of

Marriage Story

.

He also won the Boston Society Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actor in

Something Wild

at the Gold Derby in 2005 for "ER."

Ray Liotta was also the voice of Tommy Vercetti in the video game "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" and for that work he won the award for best performance by a human at the Spike Video Game Awards.
