Turkey has arrested the new leader of ISIS, Abu al-Hassan al-Hashmi al-Qurayshi, in Istanbul, the Turkish website ODATV reported today (Thursday).
Officials in Turkey have confirmed to Bloomberg News that the new leader of the organization is in custody in the country.
According to a report by the Spanish news agency EFE, the arrest was made last week as part of a covert international operation during which information about the terrorist group was found.
It is also reported that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will announce his arrest in the coming days and provide details about him.

Abu al-Hassan al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi was elected the new leader of ISIS in March after the United States killed his predecessor, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi, a month earlier in a military operation in northern Syria.
In 2019, a U.S. special forces commando killed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the former head of ISIS and who in 2014 declared himself the caliph of all Muslims.
