Two people were killed in an explosion at a biodiesel production plant in northern Spain, which required the evacuation of 250 children who were on a trip to a nearby park.
And the Associated Press quoted police as saying in a statement that "the explosion occurred at a plant for the production of biodiesel in the region (La Rioja) in the north of the country, killing two workers at the plant."
The statement added that "emergency workers rushed to evacuate the area, including a nearby park and amusement park, as there were 250 children within meters of the factory who were on a trip and had to move them from the danger area to another area," noting that "none of the children was harmed."
Video clips showed flames and columns of black smoke rising from the factory at a time when investigations were launched to find out the circumstances and causes of the explosion.
In turn, the local authorities in Calhora, where the factory is located, explained in a tweet on Twitter that the factory and the industrial area were completely evacuated and that they cordoned off the place for a distance of one kilometer around the facility until the fire was contained.
