The residents of Uvalde, Texas, shocked by the shooting at Robb Elementary School, remember in the video that accompanies this news how they lived the hours after the tragedy.
The municipality, due to its proximity to the Mexican border, has a large percentage of the population of Latin American origin.
Acquaintances and relatives of the victims provide their testimony, in Spanish, in this video.
The 16,000 inhabitants who live in the town that Salvador Ramos, a young man of 18 years, have seen their lives altered after the young man broke into the school and his action claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers.
"The scare we went through... we didn't know if the child was okay," explains the mother of one of the surviving students at Robb Elementary School.
Another inhabitant assures that she saw Salvador Ramos the day of the events while he was working;
however, she confesses that she did not dare to rebuke him for the "suspicious" attitude he showed.
It was later, when she saw a photo of the young man, that she realized who the young man she had seen was.
Another neighbor, Erika Torres, knew the killer's grandmother.
The video also shows the reaction of Beto O'Rourke, a former Democratic congressman.
The politician showed his condolences to the relatives and reiterated the need for "actions" so that a similar incident does not happen again.
"We need to change the laws of the state or we are going to continue with the massacres like we had here," insisted O'Rourke.
That same day, the former congressman interrupted the press conference that Greg Abbot, governor of Texas and political opponent, offered on Wednesday from Uvalde shouting "liar."
"The moment to stop the next massacre is now and you do nothing, this was totally predictable," the Democrat rebuked.
Moments later he was expelled from the compound.
