Wearing the burkini: the right and the far right demand a law

2022-05-26T10:12:47.397Z

Right and extreme right have again asked for more "supervision" via a law, on the wearing of the burkini in swimming pools.

After the suspension by the administrative court of the city of the authorization in Grenoble of the port of the burkini in the municipal swimming pools, the right and the extreme right ask again for a better "supervision" via a law.

.

Initially, the new swimming pool regulations authorizing the burkini, carried by the majority of the ecological mayor of Grenoble Éric Piolle, were to come into force on June 1.

But the administrative court considered this authorization to be "seriously undermining the principle of neutrality of the public service".

A decision immediately welcomed by the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin.

If Éric Piolle announced that the city would "appeal before the Council of State", Marine Le Pen (RN) considered that the burkini is a "clothing of Islamist propaganda".

"We remain vigilant and our MPs will propose legislation to ban it permanently," she tweeted.

I am pleased that justice has suspended the municipal provision of the city of Grenoble authorizing the burkini, a garment of Islamist propaganda.

We remain vigilant and our deputies will propose a law to ban it definitively.

“The Islamists want to conquer us and the left is an accomplice today”, outbid France 2 Jordan Bardella, president of the RN.

“Obviously we need a big law” and “this is one of the subjects that we will bring to the National Assembly” after the legislative elections in June.

"It's the door open to everything"

For his part, the president of LR Christian Jacob estimated on RTL "that using public services like the swimming pool to assert religious concerns is the door open to everything".

“We are in the world of Islamo-leftists, of communitarians”, he continued, also pleading to “regulate by law” the wearing of the burkini.

LR deputy Éric Ciotti tabled a bill in May aimed at banning the burkini in public swimming pools in the name of secularism.

Christian Jacob wanted us to "take it back".

On the side of the majority, MP Pierre-Yves Bournazel (Horizons), close to former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, also considered on Radio J that "the burkini is not the best promotion of equality between women and men”.

Public swimming pools are “a place of neutrality” and “if necessary, the law will have to decide”.
