An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of East Timor today, but no casualties or material losses were reported.
According to the US Geological Survey, the quake struck at a depth of 15.4 km, and the tsunami monitoring agency warned that the quake could lead to a powerful tsunami.
East Timor lies on the Pacific "Ring of Fire", where the meeting of tectonic plates causes great seismic activity.
