The Minister of Justice addressed the Prime Minister and expressed opposition to the appointments • The Minister intended to approve them in a digital vote - now a debate in the Knesset will be required

Minister Zandberg's appointment storm:

Following the report in "Israel Today" that the Minister of Environmental Protection placed two far-left activists on the board of the Nature and Parks Authority instead of two experts from the academy, Justice Minister Gideon Saar addressed the cabinet secretary and expressed opposition to the appointments.

As you may recall, Yonatan Mizrahi, CEO of the Equal Fund, is to replace Prof. Aharon Meir, an archaeologist at Bar Ilan University. Combat positions in the IDF and served for several years as Director General of the Nature and Parks Authority.

Minister Zandberg intended to approve the appointments on a fast track, with no discussion and only digital voting.

Saar's announcement means stopping the rapid process and holding a discussion in the government, if and when Prime Minister Naftali Bennett decides to bring the issue up for discussion and voting.

Planned to approve the appointments on a fast track.

Saar did not substantiate his request, but the assessment is that he is not willing to put up with placing them in such significant positions of political activists that their suitability for the position is questionable.

As mentioned, the issue is not currently on the government's agenda, so it is not yet clear when Zandberg's appointments will be discussed, if at all.

It is estimated that most of the right-wing ministers in the government will oppose Zandberg's proposal.

A source in the political system estimated that in order to avoid a public confrontation on the issue, Bennett would not raise the debate for the government in the future any time soon.

Minister Tamar Zandberg's office stated:

"As is customary in any new government, appointments that have not completed their approval process during a previous government do not continue in the process. For government approval. "

It was further stated: "The candidates selected by the Minister are experts in their field and have passed all the required tests in the committee. These are worthy candidates in every way, any attempt to blame these candidates just because of different worldview on these or other issues, is illegitimate or relevant to their position."

Earlier, Minister Zandberg said:

"I have never stopped appointing anyone and this is the first time I have heard the name of the Dr.

"When I took office, I found in this important organization a very lacking plenum whose function was impaired, and I began to staff it with experts from the fields of nature, the environment and heritage according to the law and all the rules."
