Students of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad won a silver medal and 3 certificates of appreciation in the 2022 Asian Mathematical Olympiad, which was organized remotely by Indonesia with the participation of 35 countries from Asia and the Pacific.
The Excellence and Creativity Commission stated, in a statement that SANA received a copy of today, that the silver medal was won by the student, Muhammad Ali Abdullah Houriya, from the second grade of secondary school, Al-Saada Private School in Damascus. Antoine Seif Askar from the second year of secondary school, Al-Shaheed Fahim Muhammad School in Tartous, and Muadh Abbas Bahlawan from the third year of secondary school, Al-Basel School for Outstanding Students in Aleppo.
The commission indicated that the tests, which lasted for 4 continuous hours, included 5 issues in the basic mathematics axes “number theory, geometry, harmonic analysis and algebra,” indicating that with this result, Syria advanced two ranks in the ranking of the participating countries and moved from the 28th to the 26th place.
This Olympiad is considered the scientific competition closest in its level and content to the World Olympiad due to the participation of some of the most powerful countries in the world in mathematics. Participation in it is an opportunity to prove the competence of Syrian talents on the podium and prepare for participation in the International Mathematical Olympiad scheduled for next July.
