Ex-US President Donald Trump wants to give an "important speech" to the gun lobby - of all things shortly after the bloody rampage at a Texas elementary school.
Houston - The National Rifle Association of America (NRA) is the advocacy group for gun owners and manufacturers in the United States.
Former US President Donald Trump now wants to give an “important speech” at the NRA annual meeting on Friday (May 27) in Texas.
The appointment comes days after an 18-year-old killed 19 children and two teachers at an elementary school in the same state.
After the killing spree, Joe Biden spoke out in favor of tightening gun laws in the United States.
"America needs real solutions and real leadership right now, not politicians and partisanship," Trump rumbled on his social media platform Truth Social.
For the gun lobby meeting in Houston, he promised to give an “important speech” to Americans.
"In the meantime, we all continue to pray for the victims, their families, and for our entire nation," Trump said.
In addition to Donald Trump, other speakers, mainly NRA leaders, are on the program.

However, the maker of the murder weapon that killed 21 people in Uvalde, Texas, will not be present at the NRA's annual meeting.
"Daniel Defense is not attending the NRA meeting due to the terrible tragedy in Uvalde, where one of our products was criminally misused," the company announced, according to AFP.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott will also not be attending the Houston gun lobby meeting.
However, it should be switched on via video.
US media reported that Abbott will attend a press conference in Uvalde, Texas on Friday.
