Argentina confirms its first case of monkeypox

The first confirmed case of monkeypox in Argentina is from a person who was traveling in Spain recently. There is another case under study.

Argentina confirmed its first case of monkeypox on Friday, two sources from the Ministry of Health and the laboratory where the patient's sample was processed informed CNN.

"The National Ministry of Health reports that the result of the PCR amplification reaction of the sample taken from the first high-probability case is positive, which confirms infection with poxviruses belonging to the Eurasian-African group of the Orthopox genus," points out the official report of the Argentine health portfolio.

This is a person with a history of traveling to Spain between April 28 and May 16 and who, upon returning to Argentina, had a fever and pustules.

The patient is isolated, like his close contacts, and is in good general health, according to authorities.

In addition, the Ministry of Health notified the appearance of a new suspected case of a Spanish citizen who is visiting Argentina.
