Assaulted and threatened with death during an intervention, the Beauvais firefighters file a complaint

2022-05-27T11:49:13.898Z

It was the individual they had come to rescue, this Thursday, around 7 a.m., who physically and verbally attacked the firefighters

This is a scene which comes up too often and which abnormally complicates the task of firefighters.

This Thursday, a rescue and victim assistance crew was attacked by the person they came to help.

Shortly before 7 a.m. this Thursday morning, the firefighters went to a residence in Beauvais for "a vital emergency with altered consciousness".

On the scene, the individual in distress greets the firefighters with blows, spitting and death threats.

A behavior immortalized by the pedestrian cameras with which the members of the crew were equipped, a device deployed at the end of 2020 with certain rescue centers to protect the firefighters from this type of attack.

The misdeeds of the agitated individual could therefore be recorded by these individual cameras until the arrival of the national police on the scene.

Examined by a doctor from Smur, the victim who had become the aggressor was left behind, his state of health not justifying hospital treatment.

As for the firefighters taken to task, they too did not need treatment, but they will not leave this episode of violence without follow-up.

About 40 attacks per year

“In accordance with the directives, the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of Oise has filed a complaint against the author as a legal person under public law and will provide legal support to the attacked firefighters, confirms Éric de Valroger , chairman of the board of directors of Sdis de l'Oise.

It is absolutely intolerable to attack those who, on a daily basis, have the mission of rescuing people and property.

»

Nationally, it would seem that this type of behavior is decreasing according to data from a note from the Ministry of the Interior, which recorded an 11% drop in assaults on firefighters in the first quarter of 2022, compared to the first quarter of 2022. same period of 2021.

A document which specifies that “80% of attacks take place during a rescue mission by firefighters and 66% of attackers are the victims themselves.

» Situations where there are factors such as excessive alcohol consumption or possible psychiatric disorders.

Over the past two years, firefighters in the Oise have had to deal with around forty attacks a year.
