FOOTBALL The outgoing BCF player coach Mitch Rödl on character, promotion opportunities and family

Wolfratshausen - player, playing assistant coach, head coach - Mitch Rödl has left visible traces in his long time with the football district league BCF Wolfratshausen.

However, the transformation of the former Bayernliga club back to a house number in the district is far from complete.

But for the 36-year-old, the birth of his daughter has shifted his priorities from sport to family.

With BCF reporter Oliver Rabuser, Rödl looks back on his time and the environment in Farchet.

“Unfortunately we didn’t get everything out”

Mr. Rödl, you were already the right hand of the then coach Philipp Bönig when the BCF was in the state league.

What drove you to take charge of the club after two consecutive relegations?

I've always been very attached to the club and have experienced and participated in a lot during my time in Wolfratshausen.

You feel it is your duty to help the club build something up again.

Because of the pandemic, two seasons spanned three years.

What is the conclusion of your work?

My assistant coach Jona Lehr and I wanted to get a real team back on the field.

We did that well.

We had a consistently good mood in the dressing room and never had any interpersonal problems.

This shows how important it is to shed light on the characters of the players.

Not only do they give you up, they also give you something off the pitch.

Squad size could have been better

And does your balance sheet look like from a sporting point of view?

Unfortunately we didn't get everything out.

The size of the squad could have been better and in terms of training attendance we might have needed some even more reliable players.

However, due to the many failures, almost all players came to their missions.

Sounds like you had fun.

So will you continue the coaching job?

Ask me that in a few months.

On the one hand, working with young players is a lot of fun.

At the moment, however, it is still itchy to kick the ball yourself.

That's a bit of the crux.

One thing is clear: if I work as a trainer somewhere else, then under different conditions.

Because you were a jack of all trades at the ball club for a long time?

Definitive.

The many torments along the way and the organizational cost you some of the concentration on the team.

To what extent do you regret that you didn't get promoted to the national league at the end?

Nice.

Naturally.

But it was a good time for me to stop now to bring a breath of fresh air into the club.

Certainly one could have attacked again with the appropriate reinforcements.

But when my daughter was born, I was pretty out of breath.

Your player pass stays in Farchet.

How do you see your future on the herb route?

I'll stop by in September.

But we'll have to wait and see how things develop at home.

Then my wife goes back to work.

I don't like handing her the child at the door and leaving her alone all the time.

At the moment the little one is easy to care for.

The question will also be how I can still help the team.

I'll be 37 soon and I'm sure not any faster (laughs).

What do you recommend to the BCF and especially to your successor Heinz daughter man as a farewell?

First of all, I wish Heinz good luck and have fun in Wolfratshausen.

And a good portion of composure: I also had to learn that in the district league not everything is taken as seriously as in the Bavarian or state league.
