The light suddenly went out in the 94-year-old's apartment: Eon turned off the pensioner's electricity because her husband died ten years ago.

Wolfratshausen – On Monday morning, the lights suddenly went out in Anneliese Kassner's apartment on Heiglstrasse.

And not just the lights.

All the electricity was gone.

What would have been a minor annoyance for a young person put the pensioner (94) in a serious situation.

She can only live at home thanks to the care of her son Burkhard and sister-in-law Angelika.

what happened there?

Her son moved heaven and earth to find out from Eon what the reason was.

He couldn't think of any.

The company regularly collects the installments by direct debit, you don't owe a cent.

He spent a long time in waiting patterns until his cell phone battery ran out.

"I was just dealing with some vending machines," he says.

Because he couldn't foresee whether and when the electricity would start flowing again, he got battery-operated lamps from Eisen Heinrich in Egling - he lives in Deining himself - to create a bit of light for his mother.

He inquired about short-term care places in a nursing home - in vain, nothing was free.

It was pretty hectic for a few hours.

Wolfratshauserin the power is turned off – "It made me somewhat stunned"

At some point late in the evening, the son did have someone personally on the phone.

"What I heard there made me somewhat stunned." It turned out that the company believes it has done everything right.

It had been learned that Anneliese Kassner's husband, Georg Kassner, had died - albeit ten years ago.

Because he was the official contractor, according to the energy supplier, the pensioner should have had the contract rewritten, preferably and in the most uncomplicated way on the website.

Because she didn't do that, the electricity was shut off.

"No one called my mother and asked," says Kassner.

"No one thought along."

Little by little, Deininger was able to piece together what had happened.

For many years, his mother had received the bills from Eon, some addressed only to Georg Kassner, others to both spouses.

The son recently informed the company in an e-mail that the name has always been misspelled, namely "Kastner" instead of "Kassner", combined with the short note that the father died many years ago.

Soon after, he received a "final bill" that he didn't think much about, which he transferred.

There was no reference to the previous email.

And then, on Monday, the power was gone.

Incidentally, a subcontractor who knows nothing about the whole process is responsible for switching the system on and off.

To save Eon's honor, Kassner notes that after the call to the hotline, "action was taken relatively quickly".

On Tuesday afternoon, a specialist was in the house on Heiglstrasse and supplied the pensioner with electricity again.

Initially, little hope was given to him of this, with reference to the upcoming public holidays and the general overload.

"I'm really happy about that," he says.

On the other hand, the whole process gives him food for thought.

“With the big companies, the only thing that seems to matter is that the processes are right.

The employees seem to stop thinking.” His mother has an environment that takes care of her.

"But what would have happened if she hadn't had a son?" He prefers not to think this through to the end.

Mario Leikop, Eon spokesman, regrets the inconvenience.

According to his account, a number of letters have recently been returned to the spouses with the information that the recipient has died.

After that, there were certainly attempts to make contact – but in vain.

"After that we ended the contract." Now Anneliese Kassner is registered again.

"We are delighted that she will remain our customer and wish her all the best."
