Father and son compete in races on the A61 – cars gone, driver's license gone

Police stopped two speeders on Wednesday May 25 after they nearly collided on the A61.

A dangerous race broke out between a Mercedes and a Seat on the A61 near Erftstadt.
The speeders were father and son.
Cologne – A father (45) and his 19-year-old son ran an illegal race on the Autobahn 61 near Erftstadt (Rhein-Erft-Kreis) on Wednesday afternoon, May 25th.
A serious accident could only just be prevented because another driver was attentive, reports 24RHEIN.

The men from Hürth drove their cars at around 2 p.m. at the Kerpen motorway junction onto the A61 towards Bliesheim.
"According to testimonies, the duo then illegally overtook and braked other drivers at high speed and simulated several 'race starts'," the police said.
A serious accident almost happened on the A61.
Because shortly before the Erftstadt junction, the Mercedes driver cut into the right lane after an overtaking maneuver – directly in front of the car of a 38-year-old.
She was only able to prevent a collision by "sudden emergency braking".

The driver got away with a fright.

She noted the number plate and called the police, who were able to track down the two speeders.
The driver's licenses of the father and his son and their vehicles - a Seat Ateca and a Mercedes - were confiscated.
"In addition, the officers seized the father and son's mobile phones to evaluate evidence."
