Finally again: Weilheimer Volksfest is open

After a two-year break, there is a Weilheim folk festival again.

It was opened with a stand concert by the Weilheimer Stadtkapelle on Marienplatz.

There was also free beer.

The long procession then moved to the festival site.

– Where the district’s corona test center was for many months, many spectators were eagerly awaiting the pageant yesterday.

With a lot of music we went to the festival hall, the hosts with the rifle clubs in front, behind them the chapels Unterhausen, Polling, Marnbach-Deutenhausen and Etting with their clubs.

The dignitaries of the respective places had taken their places in the three festive carriages and waved happily to the visitors.

The "Festhalle Bayernland" was already very well attended when Mayor Markus Loth tapped the first barrel with two skillful taps at twelve o'clock sharp, and with the obligatory cry "ozapf is" he immediately poured and distributed the mugs.

"It's nice to welcome you back after a two-year pandemic break.

I wish you all a nice, peaceful coexistence,” says Loth.

On the occasion of the Ukraine war there will be no fireworks this year, although the Pfaffenwinkel firecrackers marched with the pageant, but did without the fireworks.

The mayor was also pleased that the “Volksfestbahn” runs free of charge every half hour from the Volksfestplatz to Marienplatz.

Everyone just wants to enjoy

Landlord Peter Schöniger wished all visitors a lot of fun, good appetite and bon thirst, before Mayor Loth presented the landlady Petra Schöniger with a bouquet of flowers and the Weilheim town band played diligently.

In the hustle and bustle on the fairground and the sometimes wild carousels, which were already well occupied, two friends from Peißenberg and Weilheim also visited the folk festival with their children Rosalie (5), Severin (9), Maxi (9) and Felix (4).

While Maxi was enjoying the candy floss, the others wanted to ride the merry-go-round.

"After a two-year break, it's just nice to have a folk festival again, we all want to enjoy it and above all we want to treat ourselves to a chicken," said the young mothers.

Regina Steiniger from the "Steiniger Alm" is at the Weilheimer Volksfest for the first time.

She comes from Munich and already had her stand at the Spring Festival in Munich.

Monday is senior afternoon

"It's nice that it's finally starting again, people should laugh, be happy.

We expect a lot of visitors and a lot of hits," says the owner.

Because you can collect points with her and for 50 points you get a panda bear.

A Weilheimer immediately tried his luck, but he only hit small things.

On Monday there will be an afternoon at the folk festival for the 5700 seniors, where they can enjoy the beer and a bratwurst, but coffee and pastries are also on offer.

"Ziach Woif" ensures a good mood.

A children's and family afternoon is planned for Wednesday, and to conclude the festival there will be another family day on Whit Monday, June 6th.
