In 1970, the colorful costumes imagined by the scenographer Agostino Pace largely contributed to the magic of
Peau d'âne
, Jacques Demy's musical film.
Two years later, the great artist designed those of the Jourdain couple: Jacques Charon - alternating with René Camoin -, and Françoise Seigner in
Le Bourgeois gentilhomme
directed by Jean-Louis Barrault at the Comédie-Française.
They can be admired in the salon d'honneur which opens the exhibition "Molière en costumes" at the National Center for Stage Costume (CNCS), in Moulins (Allier).
Some 130 pieces accompanied by video excerpts from significant performances are offered in the thirteen rooms set up in this former military barracks.
The route is punctuated by themes: religions and licentiousness, doctors and patients, precious and learned or comedy-ballet which completes the visit in apotheosis - we have plenty of eyes and ears, thank you Lully.
